FREE ELIAN!
Fidel Castro Must Cease Abuse Of Elian Gonzalez As Propaganda Tool Of Communist Dictatorship
Castro Should Free Elian And Rest Of Boy’s Family During Trip To New York For UN Assembly On Children
(Washington, DC) Judicial Watch, the public interest law firm that investigates and prosecutes government abuse and corruption, today called upon Cuban dictator Fidel Castro to free Elain Gonzalez and the boy’s family during a proposed visit to New York for a United Nations Assembly on Children in October 2001.
Yesterday, Time magazine reported that the Cuban government is considering arrangements for Elian, the young survivor of his mother’s failed, desperate escape from the brutal Communist dictatorship, to attend a special session of the UN with “Maximum Leader” Fidel Castro. Elian was forcibly removed from the care of his Miami relatives and returned to Communist Cuba at the direction of former-Attorney General Janet Reno and former-INS Commissioner Doris Meissner, both part of the Clinton-Gore Administration.
“Castro is abusing young Elian, and it must stop immediately,” stated Judicial Watch Chairman and General Counsel Larry Klayman.
“Elian should not be exploited as a propaganda pawn by the Cuban dictator and cynical master of manipulation. He and his entire family should be free to remain in America without threat of retaliation and retribution to other family members and friends,” added Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.
Judicial Watch is pursuing several lawsuits in the wake of the Elian Gonzalez scandal, including civil rights lawsuits against Janet Reno and Doris Meissner, and efforts are being made to indict Fidel Castro. Judicial Watch represents the Miami “Little Havana” community as well as José Basulto and Brothers to the Rescue.
