Obama Climate War: Immigrants, People of Color, Limited English Proficiency at Highest Risk

President Obama has unleashed the federal government’s vast resources to combat global warming and the ammunition of choice is a cornucopia of fraud science, executive fiat, misuse of private health data and Solyndra-style corruption.

It’s a costly war initiated by the commander-in-chief last year and this week Americans are getting an update on the first batch of casualties. The mission’s name is Climate Data Initiative and it mobilized the entire federal government to stimulate innovations that empower communities and businesses to boost their own resilience against the impacts of global warming. This week the administration announced some of the findings of these new taxpayer-funded committees which are charged with helping us better understand, communicate and reduce the health impacts of climate change, especially in minority communities that the administration assures will be disproportionately impacted.

The big announcement includes a special report published by an Obama-created entity called U.S. Global Change Research Program that coordinates the climate change activities and research of more than a dozen federal agencies. The draft offers a peek into global warming’s projected impacts, including change on human health in the United States, weather and climate extremes, air quality, vector borne diseases, water and food-related issues, mental health and wellbeing, and risks facing vulnerable segments of the population, such as children, the elderly and people with existing health conditions. The 21-page report opens in dramatic fashion, proclaiming that “climate change is a significant threat to the health of the American people.”

The document largely blames “human-induced” climate change for global warming and asserts that “every American is vulnerable to the health impacts associated with climate change.” However, certain demographics are more vulnerable and will experience more suffering, according to the special global warming committee findings. “While all Americans are at risk some populations of concern are disproportionately vulnerable, including those with low income; some communities of color; those with limited English proficiency; immigrant groups; persons with functional disabilities; and persons with preexisting or chronic medical conditions.”

A few pages later the report reiterates the disparate impact that global warming will have on certain communities. They include the socially isolated, economically disadvantaged and some communities of color, which will be “especially vulnerable to death or illness.” The report also goes into mosquitos and invasive vectors and pathogens as well as water, food safety and nutrition. Global warming will threaten food security by contaminating, spoiling and disrupting food distribution, according to the report. It will also increase the risk of foodborne illness. Illustrations, detailed charts and graphs are placed throughout the document, which also claims that climate change will have “mental health consequences” such as post-traumatic stress, depression and suicidality.

In a nutshell, the president has deployed federal agencies to scare Americans into believing that global warming is a huge catastrophe that will negatively impact practically every facet of life in the U.S. It’s disaster thinking on steroids and Uncle Sam is picking up the exorbitant tab! This is hardly the first time we’ve seen this from the administration, but it’s the first glimpse into the president’s official government-wide mobilization to tackle climate change, which he claims threatens the health of future generations. Later this spring the White House will host a Climate Change and Public Health Summit, undoubtedly to offer more chilling information on the subject.

In the last few years a variety of government-funded studies have warned that global warming will make food and water dangerous, cause mental illness, cancer and threaten national security. In fact, under the Obama administration, a consortium of scientists from several government agencies—including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the State Department and National Institute of Environmental Health Science—have confirmed that global warming is one of the “most visible environmental concerns of the 21st century.” Skeptics have been largely silenced, but a few years ago an esteemed scientist, Richard Lindzen from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), revealed in a government-funded “climate security” series that there is little evidence that changes in climate are producing extreme weather events. In fact, the atmospheric physicist and professor of meteorology confirmed that too much is being made of climate change by researchers seeking government funding.
