Ohio Election
It will be interesting to see what happens with the four proposed constitutional amendments, sponsored by liberal groups, on today’s ballot in Ohio. Even the mainstream media has reported that angry John Kerry supporters (Associated Press article) across the country donated money in an effort to overhaul elections in the Republican-dominated state they blame for costing the White House.
Conservative journalist Michelle Malkin writes that: “Left-wing billionaire George Soros and his tinfoil-hat brigade” spearheaded the package of so-called reform initiatives.
The amendments would rewrite Ohio’s constitution to loosen the standards on absentee voting, diminish the right of Ohioans to exercise free speech through supporting candidates and parties, adopt a chaotic method of redrawing the state’s legislative and congressional districts to be run by unelected bureaucrats and remove the oversight of Ohio’s elections from a directly elected official who answers to voters and gives it to activist judges appointing their political cronies.
Much of the $2 million in donations to back the amendments poured in after a nationwide electronic mail alert in late September from the liberal advocacy group moveon.org, which campaigned heavily against George W. Bush.
