Disappointing Position In Light of Reno Justice Department Coverup of Clinton Scandals (Washington, April 14) -- Today, Judge Kenneth Starr -- a decent and religious man who unfortunately did not understand his powers and failed to adequately supervise his staff in the various Clinton scandal investigations -- has thrown in the towel and joined the Washington establishment, who have never liked the independent counsel law. Indeed, the "independence" of the prosecutor was always worrisome for politicians, who had a harder time putting in the "fix." One wonders why Starr accepted his appointment as independent counsel, if he had reservations about the law. "With Starr's new opposition, the law is deader than a doornail. Now that this is so, it is clear that the laws providing standing to the American people to bring public interest lawsuits, must be expanded, as it is now more apparent than ever that government and the Washington establishment will not police itself," stated Judicial Watch Chairman Larry Klayman and President Tom Fitton. |
