NO RESPONSE TO LETTER DATED DECEMBER 9, 1999 (Washington, DC) On December 9, 1999, Judicial Watch, Inc., the public interest law firm which fights government corruption, sent a letter to Hillary Clinton's attorney, David Kendall, which asked the following: Given Mr. and Mrs. Clinton's significant debt, estimated to be at least five million dollars, we respectfully request on behalf of the public interest, complete disclosure of information concerning how they intend to finance decorating, furnishing and renovating the mansion. We are concerned that public and/or private monies and/or other benefits and preferences will be used and/or bestowed by and on them in violation of the anti-gratuity, election, and other laws of the United States. A similar potential situation arose with the former Mayor of the District of Columbia, Marion Barry. Thank you for the courtesy of a response within five days. A failure to respond with complete and full disclosure will be construed as an affirmative answer that the laws are being violated. To date, we have not received a response to this letter. Mrs. Clinton has thus effectively admitted that private and/or government monies, services and goods are being illegally donated to her in violation of anti-gratuity, federal election, and other laws. Judicial Watch asked these questions based on concerns about Mrs. Clinton's ethics and because it is currently challenging, in court, the allegedly illegal purchase of Mrs. Clinton's mansion in Chappaqua, New York with a preferential mortgage. Mrs. Clinton is a defendant in this case along with her husband, Bill Clinton, Deutsche Bank, A.G., Bankers Trust Company, Inc., PNC Bank Corporation, and PNC Mortgage Corporation of America. Judicial Watch is also investigating, as part of its new Politicians 2000 Accountability Strike Force, alleged illegal activities by the candidates, including New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who has improperly used government resources for his planned political campaign for Senate. | |
