Judicial Watch: Federal Court Hearing Monday on Motion to Preliminarily Enjoin Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s Racist Interview Policy

(Washington, DC) Judicial Watch announced today that a hearing will be held in federal court today, Monday, June 7, 2021, on the preliminary injunction sought by Judicial Watch against Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s racist interview policy.

The remote hearing is before U.S. District Court Judge John Z. Lee

Date:                Monday, June 7, 2021

Time:               11:00 a.m. CT; 12:00 p.m. ET

Location:         The public may listen to the hearing by calling (650) 479-3207, conference ID 1729236743

Judicial Watch filed this motion to preliminarily enjoin Mayor Lightfoot from denying on the basis of his race Daily Caller News Foundation reporter Thomas Catenacci’s interview request.

The lawsuit was  filed on May 27, 2021, in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division (Catenacci et al v. Lightfoot (No. 1:21-cv-02852)).

Judicial Watch filed the lawsuit after Catenacci, a white journalist, emailed Mayor Lightfoot’s office requesting a one-on-one interview with the Mayor. The office never replied to the request or to two additional follow-up emails from Catenacci.

The lawsuit and subsequent motion assert that Mayor Lightfoot’s refusal to be interviewed by Catenacci violates the Daily Caller News Foundation’s and his First Amendment rights and Catenacci’s right to equal protection.

Christine Svenson of Svenson Law Offices in Chicago, Illinois, is assisting Judicial Watch with the lawsuit.
